Rivers LG Chair Declares Cult Leader Wanted Over Monarch’s Murder

The Chairman of Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chidi Lloyd, has declared a notorious cult leader, identified as Cairo, wanted over the alleged murder of a traditional ruler, Chief Ferdinand Dabirison, in Obelle community.

Lloyd, who described Cairo as the mastermind of several killings in the area, announced a ₦2 million bounty on his head and vowed that the council would not allow his reign of terror to continue.

The cult gang allegedly stormed a Council of Chiefs meeting in July, opening fire and killing Dabirison, who was serving as the community’s vice chairman. Cairo had previously been declared wanted in 2023 over rising insecurity in Obelle.

Speaking during a visit to the troubled community, Lloyd condemned the attack and urged security agencies to hunt down Cairo and his gang.

The chairman stated, “Obelle is a vital community to this state and the country. But for some time now, we have been having cases of killings and so on. We hear there is one Cairo that came here and killed Chief Dabrison. I’m placing a bounty of ₦2m on him. I want him dead or alive.”

Lloyd expressed dismay that insecurity had forced schools and businesses to shut down, with residents fleeing in fear.

He further stated, “Imagine a community like this deserted. The children can’t go to school because hoodlums are terrorising people. Under my watch, we will not allow that. No one individual will be bigger than the government.

“These children will return to school. We will come back almost immediately and fix their schools. They can’t even go to the farm. That will not continue.”

A community member, Festus Chimeke, confirmed to Punch that many families had withdrawn their children from school.

Chimeke said, “Honestly, the kids are all at home. Parents don’t allow their kids to go to school because of the hoodlums. They (miscreants) have killed Chief Dabrison, and they don’t know who else to kill.

“So instead of going to school and being killed, you’d better have your children at home. Also, you can’t go to the farm and be killed, too, so what’s the need? So better stay at home and begin to beg.”
