WATCH THE VIDEO HERE National Assembly Lawmakers from Rivers State have made a passionate appeal to would-be presidential candidates, especially those they claimed that have “desperate and never-ending presidential ambition,” to jettison their aspirations and rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. The lawmakers, comprising Senators and Representatives, expressed their support after reviewing the President’s economic policies and renewed hope agenda. During a press briefing, in Port Harcourt, on Saturday, the legislators, led by Senator Barry Mpigi and Senator Allwell Onyesoh, among others, stated that they would work tirelessly to mobilize their constituents to re-elect President Tinubu in 2027. The Lawmakers, in a signed statement by nine of them, including Senators Barry Mpigi and Allwell Onyesoh, and Representatives Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Felix Nwaeke, Kelechi Nwogu, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, and Blessing Amadi, said the declaration is significant, given the current political landscape in Nigeria, noting that their decision to rally behind President Tinubu’s re-election is because of their believe that his renewed hope agenda is the surest way to drive Nigeria’s progress and prosperity. They cited the President’s economic policies, which they said are yielding positive results, including declining inflation figures and a reduction in foreign debt. “And, in this connection, we appeal to would-be presidential candidates, especially those with desperate and never-ending presidential ambition to jettison such ambition and rally round our dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) in 2027. “We want to remind Nigerians that in 2023, we worked assiduously under the leadership of Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And we were victorious in that assignment. “As members of the National Assembly from Rivers State, we declare unequivocally our unconditional resolve to work again for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027. “As legislators who are closest to the people, we shall begin the mother of all mobilizations of our people to repeat in a greater measure what we did in 2023 in order to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).” They praised the President’s efforts to reposition the economy, citing visible results and promising growth figures. The lawmakers also commended Tinubu’s appointment of Minister FCT, Nyesom Wike, describing him as the “Master of Infrastructure.” The group thanked President Tinubu for his intervention in Rivers State, which they said has set the process of peace in motion. They expressed optimism about the President’s economic plan, citing declining inflation figures and a substantial reduction in foreign debt. They said: “We, the members of the National Assembly from Rivers State, comprising Senators and Members of the House of Representatives, extend our heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) for his trust and confidence in our leader His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (CON), GSSRS following his appointment as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. “We would also like to use this medium to thank Mr. President for the swift and necessary intervention in our dear Rivers State, which action has set the process of peace in motion, even as we pray and hope to see a clear path to an enduring peace built on sincerity of purpose. “We are gladdened by the President’s public acknowledgement and commendation of the exceptional performance of the Minister of FCT, whom he described as the “Master of Infrastructure.” “Now, having carefully reviewed the President’s economic policies which are targeted at repositioning our once moribund economy through his renewed hope agenda, and taking into account the massive rot and decadence he inherited on the 29th of May, 2023, including our uneviable debt profile, the terrible inflationary figures occasioned by the printing of N22.7 trillion naira by the Central Bank of Nigeria through Ways and Means overdraft for the Federal Government between 2015 and 2023, under former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the near-absence of critical infrastructure to support food production; we have come to the conclusion that President’s economic plan is the surest way out of our country’s social and economic morass.”
