The lawmakers visited several Local Government Areas (LGAs) to evaluate the use of council allocations, starting with Eleme LGA. During the visit, the House Committee on Local Government Affairs, chaired by Deputy Speaker Adolphus Timothy, emphasized that the exercise was not a witch-hunt but an initiative to improve efficiency at the grassroots level. Eleme LGA Chairman, Brain Gokpa, briefed the legislators on the council’s challenges, including the destruction of the Secretariat during post-election violence. He assured them that plans were in place to construct a new Secretariat alongside other development projects. After inspecting the project site, Assembly Leader Goodboy Sokari commended the Chairman’s efforts and condemned the vandalism of local government facilities last year. The Assembly further announced plans to extend similar oversight visits to all 23 LGAs in Rivers State.
