The Rivers State House of Assembly has launched a probe into the finances of the state under the six-month tenure of Ibok-Ete Ibas as sole administrator.

The lawmakers also requested Governor Siminalayi Fubara to send a list of the nominees of the Commissioners to undergo a vetting process.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Assembly was reconvened on Thursday morning, after the suspension of emergency rule in the state.  President Bola Tinubu had on Wednesday lifted the emergency rule, returning all democratic organs in place.

The plenary was chaired by the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, who sat in the conference hall of the legislative quarters. The Assembly complex is under reconstruction having been destroyed by the state government earlier this year.

Recall that on March 18, President Bola Tinubu had declared a state of emergency rule in Rivers on the grounds of the long-standing political crisis between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital territories, Nyesom Wike. The crisis put the state in months of tension and political instability.

During this period Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu and all the members of the Assembly were suspended, and Ibas was made sole administrator of the state.
