The Rivers State government has rolled out plans for events to mark  Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s first year in office.

Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, disclosed this at a news briefing in his office in Port Harcourt, on Thursday.

Danagogo said there would not be an elaborate programme to mark the anniversary because the governor considers it unnecessary, even as he said the present administration has started a number of projects, without flagging them off from the outset.

He stated, “We have a very concise programmes of activities just to mark the Governor’s first year in office. We have come out with a 20-day programme of events.

“In his characteristic style of embarking on what we have come to know as calm and quiet revolution, he doesn’t want us to embark on an elaborate voyage of celebrations over a long period, spend so much money on funfair. That is not what he is about.

“He wants us to exactly what is crucial and critical to let the people know what the government is doing and the direction of the administration.

“Most of his activities, the focus of the government, the projects embarked upon, everything will be published in a book that will be distributed during the account of stewardship which is part of the activities that will take place during this first year activity.

“One thing I love about this government is the governor’s interest in the people of the state. Governor Siminalayi Fubara is not looking for his name. I can tell you that; I am a politician and I have been around for some time.

“Check every project started by his predecessors, every idea brought by even the regimes of Dr. Peter Odili, some started by Chibuike Amaechi, some started by Nyesom Wike, he is ensuring that he completes them. He doesn’t care whether his name comes out or not.”

Dr Danagogo further said the 20-day programme of events would begin on May 14, 2024 with the commissioning of the old Bori Road in Eleme local government area of the state, while the events will end on June 1, 2024 with the Port Harcourt International Marathon.

Some of the projects billed for commission are the Andoni section of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity Road, Egbeda Internal Roads, phase one of the Port Harcourt Electrical Village and flagging off of phase 2 of the same Port Harcourt Electrical Village, among others.
