The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Benibo Anabraba, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Naijaonpoint reports that Anabraba’s decision was contained in a letter dated January 5, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman, Ward 1, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state.
In the letter, the SSG described his decision to quit the main opposition party as “personal.”
He expressed gratitude to the party for the benefits he derived during his time as a member.
“I appreciate the political leverage gained from the party during the period of my membership,” the letter stated.
Although Anabraba did not disclose his next political destination, it was gathered that he has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Anabraba’s exit is part of a wider wave of defections from the PDP to the APC in Rivers State, following the defection of Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the opposition party.
Ngozi Odu, the Rivers State Deputy Governor, also dumped the PDP for the APC.
The development comes amid a renewed political crisis in the state, as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his estranged political protégé, Governor Fubara, have resumed their face-off.
While Fubara is believed to have joined the APC in a bid to secure a return to Government House in 2027, Wike has vowed to thwart the ambition, further deepening the political tension in Rivers State.
