Former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, has warned President Bola Tinubu that the people of the Niger Delta will “punish him” in 2027 for what she described as the lawlessness imposed on Rivers State.

Onochie, in a post on 𝕏 on Wednesday, faulted Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, which suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the House of Assembly.

She alleged that the action amounted to “humiliation” and a desecration of the Nigerian Constitution.

Onochie wrote, “President Tinubu never thought that the six months of hell he illegally and unconstitutionally imposed on Rivers State would come to an end.

“The humiliation of the people of Rivers State, the humiliation of the people of the Niger Delta, and by extension, the desecration of the Nigerian Constitution, when he suspended a democratically elected governor chosen by the good people of Rivers State, will not go unpunished.”

Onnochie further declared that the Niger Delta would remember Tinubu’s action during the 2027 general elections, vowing that the people would use their votes to hold him accountable.

“That lawlessness, impunity and insult will be punished in 2027 by all and sundry. We are set,” she added.

Naijaonpoint understands that Tinubu had appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), as Sole Administrator to oversee Rivers State during the six-month emergency rule, following months of political turmoil between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The emergency proclamation ended on September 17, 2025, with the President ordering the reinstatement of Fubara, his deputy, and the state legislature.
