Five people have been confirmed dead and seven others injured in a road accident that occurred on Wednesday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, in the Mowe area of  Ogun State.

According to Florence Okupe, Public Education Officer of the Ogun State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash happened at about 1:30 pm and involved a yellow Mazda bus with registration number LGB465XA and an ash-colored Howo truck without a registration number.

“A total of 12 passengers were involved in the crash. Five lost their lives, while seven sustained various degrees of injury. The injured were taken to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, and the deceased have been deposited at Idera Morgue,” Okupe stated.

The accident was attributed to excessive speeding, brake failure, and loss of control by the truck driver, who reportedly rammed into the Mazda bus as it attempted a turn at the Car Park C junction.

Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin urged motorists to maintain full concentration while driving, observe speed limits, and ensure vehicles are mechanically sound through regular maintenance.

He also called on fleet operators to install speed-limiting devices and emphasized the importance of safety awareness on the roads. Fasakin extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery.
