Russell Brand has been granted bail after appearing in court on new allegations, including an additional rape charge.

The actor and comedian, 50, appeared via video link from the United States for a brief hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Russell Brand spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth as the court addressed the latest accusations.

He was granted bail and is scheduled to be back in court on February 17.

According to court documents, the new allegations involve one count of rape and one count of sexual assault, both said to have occurred in London in 2009. Brand has previously denied five charges tied to alleged incidents between 1999 and 2005, including two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault involving four women. A trial related to those earlier charges is expected to begin later this year.

The investigation into Brand began after a joint report published in September 2023 by the Sunday Times, the Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches, which brought multiple allegations to light.

Brand has consistently denied the allegations against him.
