The 49-year-old comedian and actor pulled up to Westminster Magistrates’ Court early Friday morning for his hearing, which wrapped in under 15 minutes. He was granted bail, and his next appearance is set for May 30 at the Central Criminal Court, better known in the UK as The Old Bailey. Authorities allege that the alleged sexual assaults occurred between 2006 and 2013, during the height of Brand’s fame. One of his alleged victims claims she was just 16 years old at the time of the incident. Brand has denied all wrongdoing, claiming the encounters were consensual and suggesting there’s a larger agenda behind the case. “I’ve received two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email, one from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper, listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks,” Brand said on social media before the story broke. “But amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.”
