Ryan Coogler Gives Biggest Black Panther 3 Update Yet After Sinners

shuri in black panther wakanda forever

Black Panther 3 is closer to becoming a reality as a massive new Marvel Cinematic Universe update about the sequel has emerged. The Multiverse Saga is nearing its end, as Marvel Studios is focusing on its remaining Phase 6 projects, but the future of another beloved franchise in the MCU is already looking promising.

During his appearance at Deadline Contenders, Ryan Coogler was asked about the Black Panther 3 installment and if that is his next film he is going to be working on. While remaining coy, Coogler gave the following response:

Ryan Coogler: If it were anyone but you, I would say I could neither confirm or deny. But we’re working on it, we’re working on it hard…It’s the next movie.

After the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ending, Letitia Wright is set to reprise the role of Shuri in Avengers: Doomsday, as she is now carrying the iconic mantle. The actress and the rest of the cast completed principal photography on the big team-up film back on September 19, 2025.

Black Panther 3 updates have been emerging slowly over the last few years as one of the sequels going forward at Marvel Studios, after the 2022 installment grossed $859.2 million at the worldwide box office. Given that the MCU is focused on wrapping up The Multiverse Saga, Phase 7 is most likely when the follow-up will be scheduled.

However, one of the things that is happening with Black Panther 3 is the introduction of Denzel Washington in the MCU, as he revealed that Coogler is working on a role for him in the upcoming project. One of the last teases the Hollywood icon gave about his mystery role was in August 2025, when he told ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley that whoever he is playing, “That’s between me and Ryan.”

If the sequel takes place after Avengers: Secret Wars filming, while being based in Phase 7, the Phase 6 finale could have a major impact on Black Panther 3. Since the franchise is set to go through a reset after the 2027 installment, the audience may get to experience a very different Wakanda, depending on how the universe looks after The Multiverse Saga.

Black Panther 3 currently does not have a set release date.
