Ryan Reynolds unites with Amazon MGM to film a remake of the 1974 Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges crime comedy movie, Thunderbolt & Lightfoot.

According to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds could also potentially star in the upcoming film. He will reportedly produce the film through his company, Maximum Effort.

The actor and producer is also helping out with the script for Thunderbolt & Lightfoot. The writing duo behind Fargo season 4 and FX’s Snowfall, Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson, will be responsible for penning the remake. Shane Reid, who edited the MCU box office hit Deadpool & Wolverine, will direct the movie.

The original 1974 film followed two criminals. Thunderbolt (Eastwood) was an experienced thief while Lightfoot (Bridges) was a young vagabond. The two met when Thunderbolt was pretending to be a preacher and was attacked by an old associate, Red (George Kennedy), who wrongfully believed that he was betrayed by him. As he runs away from his former friend, Lightfoot helps him out by picking him up in a car that he had just stolen.

The pair eventually develop a plan to team up with Red and another old partner of Thunderbolt’s, Eddie (Geoffrey Lewis), for a heist. The unlikely team then attempt to rob a bank as chaos ensues.

Thunderbolt & Lightfoot was written and directed by Michael Cimino. The project was the first movie the late filmmaker directed and was the beginning of his very successful career. Cimino won the best director Academy Award for his 1978 war drama, The Deer Hunter.

There is currently no release date for the Thunderbolt & Lightfoot remake at the time of this article’s publication.
