Samsung has released the May 2024 update for the Galaxy S20 series, which is enjoying a fifth year of updates. The latest security patch is also rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy A54, and Galaxy A53 in international markets. The Galaxy Xcover 7, Galaxy A52s, Galaxy A52, and Galaxy M34 are getting One UI 6.1.

Samsung pushes the May 2024 update to the Galaxy S20 series

Launched in early 2020, the Galaxy S20 series was supposed to get three major Android OS updates and four years of security updates. Samsung fulfilled both promises, updating the devices from Android 10 to Android 13 and pushing monthly security patches for four years. We expected the company to drop official update support for the phones in early 2024, but it didn’t.

Into their fifth year now, the phones continue to get security updates. Samsung has just rolled out the May 2024 SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy S20 trio. The update is currently available for 5G models in Europe with the firmware build number G98*BXXSKHXEA. The company may expand the coverage to more markets in the coming days.

Samsung’s latest security patch contains fixes for more than 50 vulnerabilities. The company has already pushed these fixes to dozens of Galaxy devices. Some have received the update globally, while others are slowly picking it up in more markets. Following a US release last week, Samsung is now rolling out the May SMR to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in other regions.

Additionally, the new security update is available for the Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy A54, and Galaxy A53 in various parts of the world. Except for the Galaxy A53, all other devices have received the May SMR in the US. Samsung will gradually update more units globally. You can always check for updates from the Settings app on your phone.

One UI 6.1 is available for more Galaxy devices

Along with expanding the May SMR, Samsung is pushing One UI 6.1 to more eligible Galaxy devices. The Galaxy Xcover 7, Galaxy A52s, Galaxy A52, and Galaxy M34 are among the devices that recently started picking the new One UI version. The Galaxy A52 5G received it last week. None of these devices have AI features, but One UI 6.1 brings other features and improvements. Some of these devices are also picking up the latest security patch with this update.
