Victor Osimhen continued his superb form for Galatasaray, netting his 21st league goal of the season in a commanding 2-0 win over Samsunspor on Friday to keep the Super Lig leaders firmly in control of the title race, Footynaija.com reports.

Fresh from scoring twice against fierce rivals Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Cup, the Nigeria international carried that confidence into the clash in Samsun, having now registered 12 goals in his last eight appearances for club and country.

With Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe breathing down Galatasaray’s neck, just three points adrift heading into the weekend’s fixtures, pressure was mounting on Okan Buruk’s side to deliver.

And they did not disappoint.

Osimhen was heavily involved in the opener after 14 minutes, linking play brilliantly before his deflected effort found Yunus Akgün, who unleashed a thunderous finish into the top corner to break the deadlock.

The pair combined again early in the second half for Galatasaray’s second. Akgün returned the favour with a perfectly weighted through-ball, which Osimhen slotted past the advancing goalkeeper with clinical precision.

It is Osimhen’s third goal in two appearances against Samsunspor, only against Antalyaspor and Kasimpasa has the Super Eagles striker scored more. The on-loan Napoli striker has smashed four goals each against Antalyaspor and Kasimpasa.

The 2-0 win sees Galatasaray move up to 74 points, six clear of second-placed Fenerbahçe, who still have a game in hand. Samsunspor remain third on 51 points, narrowly ahead of Besiktas.

Osimhen’s relentless goal-scoring run has proven vital to Galatasaray’s push for a third consecutive league crown, and the striker will once again be key when the champions return to action on Friday, April 18, hosting Bodrum FK.
