The Sandra Bullock thriller Premonition is surging on Netflix. The 2007 movie, which is told out of order, sees the Oscar winner playing a woman who is trying to prevent the impending death of her husband (Julian McMahon). The movie’s ensemble cast also includes Nia Long (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Amber Valletta (Hitch), and Peter Stormare (2025’s Until Dawn).
Now, per Netflix‘s daily chart of their Top 10 most-watched movies in the United States, Premonition has surged to No. 10. It has landed on the chart alongside popular contemporary Netflix originals such as Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers (No. 1), A House of Dynamite (No. 2), KPop Demon Hunters (No. 3), The Perfect Neighbor (No. 7), and Ballad of a Small Player (No. 9).
It seems likely that the Sandra Bullock movie has landed on the chart because of Halloween, which took place on October 31. Many Halloween-themed movies and horror-adjacent titles have filled the remaining space on the chart, including Goosebumps 2 (No. 4), Hotel Transylvania 3 (No. 5), Hubie Halloween (No. 6), and Casper (No. 8).
However, Premonition has achieved this feat in spite of the fact that it is not a recent addition to the Netflix library in the United States, which is a factor that can give titles a significant boost in viewership.
While Premonition has a very different atmosphere from the other Halloween titles that are dominating the Netflix chart in the U.S., which are all family-friendly horror-comedies, there are several factors that may have led to its resurgence on streaming 18 years after its original theatrical run.
The first is that Premonition was a hit when it debuted. It grossed $84.1 million against a reported budget of just $20 million, outgrossing a number of popular 2007 titles including Hot Fuzz ($80.6 million), Rob Zombie’s Halloween ($80.5 million), There Will Be Blood ($76.2 million), and 30 Days of Night ($75.5 million). Additionally, Netflix is already known for being the home of solid Sandra Bullock horror-thrillers.
She was the star of their 2018 post-apocalyptic movie Bird Box, which was at one point the streamer’s most-watched movie of all time with 157.4 million viewers, though it has since fallen behind The Adam Project (157.6 million), Don’t Look Up (171.4 million), Carry-On (172.1 million), Red Notice (230.9 million), and KPop Demon Hunters (325.1 million).
Sandra Bullock is continuing to prove herself as a major draw for the streaming platform, even for acquired titles that aren’t being given the extra push of being recent additions or Netflix originals.
