Silent Night, Deadly Night continues preparing to slash its way through the holiday box office, now releasing a brand new trailer highlighting the antics of its killer Santa. Based on the 1984 cult horror classic, the twisted reimagining comes from the mind of writer-director Mike P. Nelson and still follows the tale of a traumatized young man transforming into Santa Claus to enact his blood-soaked mission of violence.

One potential difference from the original Silent Night, Deadly Night is the addition of romance this time around. Halloween Ends‘ Rohan Campbell plays Billy, whose killing spree coincides with a meet-cute when he encounters Pamela (Rudy Modine, Shameless), a woman who dares to challenge his darkness. While Pamela was present as a character in the original film, the latest trailer – as shown below – suggests she will be a more active participant in the proceedings.

While the previous trailer focused on the new film’s connection to the 1984 classic (not to mention the producers from Terrifier 2 and Terrifier 3) and touted the myriad ways Santa would kill his victims, the latest one offers a deeper look at the storyline. The trailer opens with a murder committed by the so-called St. Nick before fast-forwarding to the haggard Billy himself, who claims to be in search of something intangible.

From there, Billy’s dressed-up kills are juxtaposed with flashes of his relationship with Pamela, including her knowledge of his antics and questioning of his choices. The question of whether she will change him, or he will convert her, hangs in the balance and provides a layer of suspense beyond the deliciously gruesome gore audiences can expect.

The movie already premiered at Fantastic Fest, where it received a warm reception from audiences and critics alike, culminating in a strong 85% on Rotten Tomatoes as of right now. Silent Night, Deadly Night also features a strong supporting cast, including Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson. With any luck, Cineverse’s newest release will be a worthy follow-up to its recent genre successes, such as Terrifier 3 and the newest iteration of The Toxic Avenger.
