The Kebbi State Government has announced Alhaji Sanusi Mikail Sami (Gomo III) as the new Emir of Zuru, following the passing of the late Emir, retired Major General Muhammad Sani Sami (Gomo II).

Naijaonpoint reports that the official announcement was made on Thursday at the Zuru Emir’s Palace by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Garba Dutsin-Mari, who also presented the appointment letter signed by Governor Nasir Idris.

According to the commissioner, the appointment followed the submission of three names by the Zuru Emirate Council’s Kingmakers, in line with constitutional provisions.

“His Excellency, the Governor, in exercising the powers vested in him, has approved Alhaji Sanusi Mikail Sami as the new Emir of Zuru, now officially recognised as Gomo III,” Dutsin-Mari said.

Before the formal presentation, the Sarkin Wasagu, Alhaji Muktari Musa, who had served as Acting Emir since the demise of the late monarch, officially received the new Emir and welcomed dignitaries to the palace.

In his acceptance speech, the new Emir expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and to Governor Idris for the confidence reposed in him.

“I call on all our people to remain peaceful, loyal, and united. I assure you of an open-door policy and inclusive leadership,” he said.

He also praised the Acting Emir for his stewardship during the transition period and promised to continue supporting the people of the Emirate as he has always done.

Naijaonpoint reports that the late Emir, Major General Muhammad Sani Sami (Gomo II), died recently in a London hospital and was buried at his residence in Zuru.

His death ended an era, paving the way for the ascension of Gomo III, who now takes over the mantle of leadership in the historic Zuru Emirate.
