After more than five decades, Avengers‘ iconic romance between Scarlet Witch and the Vision finally has a happy ending. Despite being the Avengers’ most iconic romance, the two have essentially been separated since 2004, when Wanda’s breakdown in Avengers Disassembled caused Vision’s death. Now, fans finally get a happy ending for the pair.

In today’s The Vision and the Scarlet Witch #5 – from Steve Orlando, Jacopo Camagni, Ruth Redmond and Travis Lanham – Vision and Wanda unite to battle against the eldritch monster Gargantos. The two have spent this miniseries exploring the undead Graverealm, where reality is malleable, and once the villain is vanquished, the pair spend a lifetime together before returning to Earth-616.
Vision and Scarlet Witch explore Graverealm, living out Wanda’s natural life as a couple. Their love essentially turns Graverealm into their private Heaven, as the two spend decades together before returning to their lives on Earth. Marvel’s comics are designed never to ‘end’, but an entire lifetime spent in blissful love is a major payoff for fans who’ve waited two decades for Vision and Wanda to get back together.
A prior issue even allowed Wanda and Vision to share time with their children – the first meeting between their twins and Vision’s deceased son, Vin. While Vision loses his memories of Graverealm when he returns to Earth, it’s made clear some emotional resonance of these experiences remains.

This Sweet Story Has Been a LONG Time Coming
Scarlet Witch and the Vision first met in 1970’s Avengers #76, with Wanda quickly coming to appreciate Vision’s humanity. After their first kiss in Avengers #91, they fell in love and eventually married, despite disapproval from the general public and Wanda’s brother Quicksilver over Vision’s synthetic nature. The two lived together and even had twin babies, but were dogged by tragedy, with Vision losing his emotional memories in West Coast Avengers‘ iconic ‘Vision Quest’ storyline, and the twins eventually vanishing from reality.
In Avengers Disassembled, Wanda’s grief over her lost children led her to her warp reality, attacking her friends. Once Vision was rebuilt by Iron Man, he told Wanda that while he could forgive destroying him, he couldn’t forgive that she “chose to overpower me and use my body as a weapon against my friends and my home” – something Vision had suffered before at the hands of Ultron. While Vision’s attitude has mellowed since, a true reconciliation has evaded fans.
Now, fans have that and more, as the two Avengers finally get their happy ‘ending.’ Scarlet Witch even explicitly states that she and Vision may find themselves back together in the future – as good as it gets for fans in a world where the story is never really over.
