Scarlett Johansson is joining The Batman – Part II as a new DC report reveals who she is seemingly playing, and it’s a role tied to a massive villain. Following the 2022 installment, The Batman universe is expanding as the sequel is in development.

According to The InSneider, Johansson is reportedly playing Gilda Gold, who is best known as the wife of DC’s Harvey Dent. With her introduction, the report also reveals that The Batman – Part II is currently in the process of casting Harvey and his father, Christopher Dent.

Allegedly, Matt Reeves had approached Brad Pitt for Christopher, but he seemingly passed on the gig. Per The Hollywood Reporter on Friday, December 12, the trade addressed the previous Pitt rumors with the following:

Is Brad Pitt in The Batman Part II? This one has been in the ether for months, and we looked into it. Sadly, sources close to the production say no, Pitt will not be in the movie, which we are told is now aiming to shoot in May.

The Batman – Part II cast will not only feature Robert Pattinson back in the lead role, but Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb is set to return, too. The film is reportedly taking place only a few weeks after The Penguin TV show.

If Harvey ends up in Reeves’ sequel, this would be the second live-action franchise to feature the famous Batman foe, right after the first film. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight brought Harvey into the franchise, with Aaron Eckhart portraying the DC villain.

At the time of this story’s publication, DC Studios has yet to comment on the casting reports regarding Johansson’s role, as well as whether or not the Dents are involved in The Batman – Part II story. Principal photography is set to begin in May 2026.

While Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright are set to return as Alfred Pennyworth and Jim Gordon, respectively, Zoë Kravitz is reportedly not coming back as Catwoman in The Batman – Part II. Reeves’ sequel will be the second major DC film to shoot in 2026, as James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow will also be going into production in April.

The Batman – Part II is scheduled to open in theaters on October 1, 2027.
