In a bold effort to combat child hunger and malnutrition, The Street Child Care and Welfare Initiative (SCCWI) fed over 3,000 underserved children across multiple communities in Lagos State through its flagship “Feed the Children Project 2025” held on May 27th.
The initiative, which coincided with Children’s Day celebrations, delivered nutritious packed meals, and essential support to children within Lagos and surrounding communities including Ologo Otto Slum, Oshodi, Okobaba Destitute Home, Mushin, Oko Agbon, and the IDP Camp in Igbo Efon, Lekki.
Now in its fifth year, the “Feed the Children Project” is SCCWI’s annual response to the growing food insecurity affecting Nigeria’s most vulnerable children. The program provides not just food but a foundation for hope, learning, and healthier futures, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger.
“No child deserves to go to bed hungry,” said Mrs. Comfort Alli, Project Coordinator at SCCWI. “This initiative is about restoring dignity, nurturing potentials, and ensuring that every child has at least one healthy meal per day. By addressing their basic nutritional needs, we empower them to focus on education andl growth an development.”
The outreach successfully mobilized 26 on-ground volunteers, who facilitated meal distribution in the identified communities, with an addition of four online volunteers who helped disseminate real-time updates and amplify awareness across digital platforms.
Among the volunteers was Chief Kayode Aderinokun, a prominent humanitarian, who described his experience as both humbling and emotionally impactful. “It was simply unbelievable,” he said. “Despite decades of humanitarian involvement, I had never witnessed such intense poverty. It was a deeply fulfilling experience to be part of a mission that brings immediate relief and long-term hope.”
Key highlights of the 2025 outreach include:

SCCWI expressed gratitude to all individuals and organizations that supported the execution of the project and extended an open call to prospective partners, donors, and sponsors to join future efforts aimed at expanding the reach and deepening the impact of the initiative.
“There is still so much to do,” Mrs. Alli emphasized. “With more support, we can scale our efforts and help build a world where no child is left behind.”
