Kashim Shettima

The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has condemned the abduction of schoolgirls in Maga village, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, describing the incident as a “national tragedy” that has deeply shaken the country.

Shettima, who visited the state on Wednesday to commiserate with the government and families affected, assured that the Federal Government would leave no stone unturned in rescuing the victims.

“Kebbi’s pain is Nigeria’s pain,” he said during the visit, stressing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to the rescue efforts.

He further stated, “The President is deeply concerned and remains committed to the rescue operations.”

The Vice President vowed that the government would mobilise every available resource to ensure the girls return home safely.

According to him, “all available state apparatus will be deployed to ensure the girls are returned unharmed.”

He also pledged federal support for the family of the late vice principal, who reportedly died while defending the students during the attack.

“We will honour and take care of the family. His sacrifice will not be in vain,” Shettima stated.

Shettima commended security agencies for their efforts in combating insecurity across the region, acknowledging the courage and sacrifice of personnel on the frontline.

He particularly praised the contribution of the late Brigadier General involved in security operations, saying his service and sacrifice will be remembered.

The Vice President also lauded Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, describing him as “a true son of the North” and commending his commitment to enhancing security in the state.

His entourage included top government officials such as the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, the Minister of Women Affairs, and the APC National Chairman.

Governor Idris thanked the Vice President and President Tinubu for their solidarity and assured that Kebbi State remains confident in the Federal Government’s resolve to tackle insecurity.
