The Campaign Coordinator for the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Suleja Local Government Chairmanship candidate, Comrade Abubakar Sadeeq Suleja, has raised concerns over alleged threats to the life of Hon. Shehu Abdukadir, the SDP candidate, reportedly arising from his petition at the Zone B Senatorial District Local Government Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Minna.
Addressing journalists at the High Court Complex in Minna, Comrade Sadeeq alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Isyaku Bawa Na’ibi, has been using the police to intimidate and harass Abdukadir into withdrawing the petition.
Sadeeq claimed that plainclothes operatives from the Niger State Police Command have been trailing Abdukadir for the past two weeks.
According to him, “If the APC candidate, Isyaku Bawa Na’ibi, has any case against our candidate, he should forward it to the tribunal. Why use the police to harass and intimidate Shehu Abdukadir?”
“It’s unfortunate that the police are being used as a tool for intimidation,” Sadeeq said. He questioned why the APC candidate could not address the issues through the tribunal instead of resorting to harassment.
Sadeeq warned that no amount of intimidation would deter them from seeking justice, emphasizing their commitment to the tribunal process.
“We are already at the tribunal, which is the appropriate place to challenge the malpractice and other irregularities recorded in the conduct of the November 1 local government election in Suleja,” he further stated.
The SDP campaign coordinator for the Suleja Local Government chairmanship candidate, however, appealed to supporters to remain peaceful and assured them that justice would prevail.
