SDP reacts to El-Rufai’s comment on coalition with ADC

The leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reacted to a statement by Nasir El-Rufai that the party is in talks with other political parties to form a coalition with the African Democratic Party (ADC).

Speaking on Channels Television, the 2023 presidential candidate for the SDP, Adewole Adebayo denied being in coalition talks with any individual or party.

Adebayo said he has to make it clear that the former Kaduna was not speaking on behalf of the SDP when he spoke about a coalition with other political parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Recall that the former governor has continued to meet with key politicians including Atiku Abubakar, a two-time presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a coalition.

With the sole focus of defeating President Bola Tinubu, El-Rufai also confirmed that Peter Obi of the Labour Party is also part of the politicians in the coalition talk.

However, reacting to these comments, Adebayo said the SDP is not in any form of coalition talk.

Adebayo’s words, “The SDP is not involved in any coalition led by somebody else, but I can tell you, and the SDP is led by Alh. Shehu Gabam and Olu Agunloye, he has not given me an assignment to do coalition on his behalf.

“He’s not given any assignment to my senior brother, El-Rufai. El-Rufai is not representing SDP in any coalition,” Adebayo said.

He stated that the party is sitting back and monitoring activities ahead of the 2027 election buildup.

He added that the SDP is waiting to have a better understanding of how it plans to oust President Tinubu’s government and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
