He made this statement today during a press briefing in Abuja following a security council meeting. While the minister refrained from naming the senator, he mentioned that the lawmaker supplied food to the protesters. “We have intelligence indicating that security agencies had to intervene to lead some individuals in providing food for the protesters,” he stated. “This constitutes sponsorship. A senator providing food for protesters. At the appropriate time, security agencies will summon the senator to explain why they are supporting such actions against the current government.” Wike also urged protesters in the capital to adhere to the court order and remain at the MKO Abiola Stadium for their demonstration. He explained that security agencies received intelligence about individuals attempting to disrupt the peaceful protest, which is why they want all protesters to gather in one location. He emphasized that he is not opposed to the protests but insisted that all demonstrations must be conducted legally. Earlier, the minister commended the protesters for their commitment to non-violence and peaceful expression. Wike reiterated the Federal Government’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the protesters, highlighting that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is taking necessary steps to ease the hardships faced by Nigerians.
