Security Guard Arrested For Killing Worker In Gombe Govt House

The Nigeria Police Force in Gombe has arrested a 19-year-old casual watchman, Shuaibu Adamu, for the alleged killing of a worker at the Government House.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a press statement issued on Saturday.

Abdullahi said the police received a distress call at about 3.50 p.m. on Friday, reporting a suspected case of culpable homicide within the Government House premises.

According to him, the report stated that a male adult, identified as Mallam Umar, a borehole operator, was found lying motionless at the scene.

“Preliminary findings showed that his trousers were tied around his neck, while a local intoxicant popularly called rubber solution was found in his mouth,” the spokesperson said.

He added that the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe, where a medical doctor certified him dead, after which his body was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

Abdullahi said the Commissioner of Police, Umar Chuso, visited the scene and ordered a comprehensive investigation.

He explained that CCTV footage later revealed that the suspect, also known as ‘Yaya Mama,’ assaulted the victim shortly before his death and fled the scene.

The police spokesperson said a follow-up operation led to the arrest of the suspect at about 11.00 p.m. on Friday at Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe.

Abdullahi disclosed that the suspect confessed during preliminary interrogation and would remain in police custody pending the completion of investigations and subsequent prosecution.

The command assured residents of its commitment to ensuring safety and justice, particularly around government facilities in the state.
