A top member of the notorious Orkwagh-Orkwana gang, terrorizing the Sankera axis of Benue State, has been reportedly shot dead in a fresh twist to the region’s lingering insecurity.
The slain gang member, identified as Gramazoo, also known by the alias Akpaamu, was killed in the early hours of Monday along the Anyiin–Ugba road by unidentified gunmen.
Gramazoo was considered one of the most dangerous and loyal enforcers of the feared bandit leader, Chen, a criminal kingpin on the wanted list for a string of violent crimes across Katsina-Ala, Logo, and Ukum Local Government Areas.
Chen and his syndicate have been linked to various crimes, including kidnappings, illegal arms dealings, armed robbery, assassinations, and orchestrated communal violence that has plagued the Sankera region for years.
While the exact circumstances surrounding Gramazoo’s death remain uncertain, sources in the area suggest it may have resulted from a gang-related conflict or a targeted operation by rival groups or local vigilantes seeking to reclaim their communities.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the killing. However, the incident is being seen by local observers as a potential crack in Chen’s long-standing criminal enterprise, which has continued to defy security operations.
Residents, who have repeatedly decried the lack of government action in curbing violence in the region, expressed cautious optimism that the incident may signal the beginning of a turnaround in the fight against banditry in Sankera.
