The Senate on Wednesday commenced screening of three ambassadorial nominees forwarded by President Bola Tinubu for confirmation.
The exercise was steered by the lawmaker representing the Niger North senatorial district and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Sani Bello.
Naijaonpoint reports that Bello confirmed that Ayodele Oke, one of the nominees, had been absolved of all claims earlier brought against him.
The nominees screened by the committee were Kayode Are from Ogun State, Aminu Dalhatu from Jigawa State, and Ayodele Oke from Oyo State.
Their names were contained in a letter earlier read by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, last week, requesting the Senate’s nod for confirmation.
The names of the three were transmitted ahead of 32 other nominees recently announced by the Presidency.
In a related development, former senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has shared his thoughts on the reason he has never been selected for an ambassadorial position.
According to Sani, his name was not on the list because he was too young to be an ambassador.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television, Sani stated that he still has much to deliver to the people of Kaduna State.
He said, “My name has never been on the list for an ambassadorial position.
“I read about a month ago, as a former senator and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs when I was there, that there are procedures for appointment. You have to get a call, submit your CV, go for security screening, and they have to vet you. But never has my name been among them.
“I think I’m too young to be an ambassador. I still have a lot to deliver to my people in Kaduna State.”
