Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu, stated that no external pressure would influence the Senate’s decision, emphasizing adherence to legislative rules. “The Senate is guided by our Constitution and Standing Orders. We remain focused on tax reform bills, constitutional review, and electoral law amendments ahead of 2027,” Adaramodu affirmed. Meanwhile, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has questioned the Federal High Court’s authority to hear Akpoti-Uduaghan’s case, arguing that legislative matters should be settled internally. Akpoti-Uduaghan had approached the court seeking to halt the Senate Ethics Committee’s probe into her conduct. Justice Obiora Egwuatu has ordered the National Assembly to respond within 72 hours on why the suspension should not be overturned. Despite Akpabio’s legal team challenging the court’s jurisdiction, Justice Egwuatu confirmed proper service of documents and scheduled the next hearing for March 25, 2025. Meanwhile, the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Professionals have condemned former Senate President Bukola Saraki for interfering in the matter, urging him to respect legal and parliamentary processes.
