Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central from 2011 to 2019, officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday.
Announcing his departure via social media, Marafa cited persistent internal crises and perceived injustice within the APC in Zamfara as core reasons for his exit.
A post widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter) read: “Senator Marafa left the APC primarily due to an unresolved internal party crisis in Zamfara State and his perception of injustice and bias.”
In his resignation statement, Marafa declared that the “battle line” has now been unequivocally drawn.
He particularly chided Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, former Governor of Zamfara State and Bello Matawalle, the immediate past governor and current Minister of State for Defence.
This development occurred against a backdrop of prolonged factionalism within the APC, marked by a rivalry between Marafa and Yari that culminated in the Supreme Court’s annulment of APC candidacies in the 2019 elections due to irregularities in the primary elections.
For years, Zamfara’s APC has been defined by internecine conflict rather than cohesion.
Senator Marafa served two terms (2011–2019) in the National Assembly and held influential roles, including vice-chair and chairman of key petroleum committees.
He also championed major infrastructure initiatives such as the establishment of the Federal University Gusau and a Department of Petroleum Resources office in Gusau.
