Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has clarified that her invitation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other lawmakers for the commissioning of projects in her constituency is not a personal matter but rather in line with parliamentary protocol.
On Thursday, the senator extended invitations to Akpabio and fellow senators to attend the event, which comes just two months after her reinstatement from suspension.
Marking her second year in office this week, Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that she followed the proper legislative procedure by routing her invitation through the Senate President, and formally requested that the letter be read on the floor of the chamber.
“Today, as is customary for announcements of this nature, I submitted my letter through the presiding officer for the Senate President to read on the floor,” she said in a statement.
She noted that making the invitation public was necessary to avoid the impression of celebrating in isolation.
“I am a progressive person. Even with ongoing court cases, I have continued to carry out my duties in the chamber and to adhere to due process,” she added.
The senator emphasised that her approach reflects respect for institutional norms and a commitment to public service, stressing that the commissioning of projects was about community development rather than personal accolades.
