Sevilla star backs Nigeria to shine against Rwanda despite World Cup qualifier squad omission

Sevilla winger Chidera Ejuke has thrown his support behind the Super Eagles, backing them to secure maximum points in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, despite being left out of the squad, Footynaija.com reports.

Ejuke, 27, was a surprise omission from the 23-man squad named by head coach Eric Chelle, despite his impressive form since returning from injury.

The pacey winger has been a key figure for Sevilla this season, yet his performances were not enough to earn him a call-up.

However, Ejuke remains positive about Nigeria’s chances.

“We have a lot of players in Nigeria, and believe me, at the end of the day it’s the coach’s decision, and he knows what he’s doing,” he told Lacolina de Nervion.

“So, for me, if I get the opportunity to go there, I’ll always be happy to represent my country. I wish the boys the best and, obviously, I’ll be watching as well, and I hope they win the matches.”

Nigeria will face Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, March 21, before hosting Zimbabwe in Uyo four days later as they aim to strengthen their qualification campaign.
