Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, the widow of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has taken legal action to safeguard her husband’s property.
On November 19, 2025, Omowunmi filed a notice at the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, to prevent any unauthorised claims to his estate.
In a letter submitted through her lawyers, Omowunmi informed the Probate Registrar that she had submitted Forms 5 and 6, ensuring that Letters of Administration could not be granted to anyone other than the recognised beneficiaries. The filing also formally identified Mrs Aloba as Mohbad’s legal wife and the mother of his only surviving child, Master Liam Aloba.
She noted that public notices were published in two national newspapers in November 2025 to prevent any fraudulent or unauthorised attempts to claim the estate. Her legal team stressed that the notice remains valid in court records and just he respected until the estate is properly administered, expressing confidence that no irregular claims would be allowed. At the same time, the deceased’s lawful wife and son are still alive.

A few weeks back, Mohbad’s family had banned his widow from using their family’s surname in public or private records until lawful confirmation of paternity was obtained. They noted that no statutory or customary marriage was contracted between the late Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo.
Reacting to it, Wunmi’s lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, described the directive as illegal and sentimental. He accused Aloba’s family of frustrating the DNA process despite multiple court orders.
Recall that following the singer’s death, in 2023, many have been clamoring for a DNA test to be done on Liam, his son to ascertain his paternity. Even Mohbad’s father had called for DNA to be done on his son.
