Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has dedicated his maiden Africa Cup of Nations goal to his mother, Soccernet.ng reports.
Adams delivered a standout performance for the Super Eagles as they dismantled Mozambique 4-0 at the Complexe Sportif De Fes.
The Sevilla star was instrumental from the start, assisting Nigeria’s opening two goals in the first half before capping off his night with a well-deserved strike late in the second half.
It was a commanding display from the forward, who played with immense confidence and tireless energy throughout the match.
His goal against the Mambas marked a significant career landmark, representing his first-ever strike for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking after the game, Adams expressed his gratitude to God for helping him find the back of the net at the tournament. He emotionally revealed that the goal was a special dedication to his mother, who had been hospitalized earlier that day.
“Glory to God for scoring my first AFCON goal like many of you have been waiting for. But the goal is dedicated to my mum,” Adams told Soccernet.ng.
“She’s supposed to be here, but she’s in the hospital right now. She was admitted this morning, but she’s much better now.”
Adams’ parents are important pillars in his life. He is a family-oriented player and has even flown his parents to watch him at Sevilla.
Akor Adams Honoured To Play For The Super Eagles
After the game, Akor Adams expressed his happiness to represent Nigeria on the international stage.
Recall that he only made his Super Eagles debut last October, but he has made a significant within the short period.
The 25-year-old Sevilla star is living the dream. His attacking partnership with Victor Osimhen has been brilliant, and he appears to be playing some of the best football of his life in Morocco at the moment.
“I’m privileged to play for Sevilla actually, don’t get me wrong. But playing for Nigeria is the greatest pride I’ve felt for myself and for my family,” Adams told Soccernet.ng.
“I’m very sure every player on the team feels that way. It’s a privilege, it’s a responsibility as well, and I’m very aware of that. So I’m grateful to God that in this time of history, I am representing Nigeria in this way.”
Adams will be hoping to continue scoring goals for the Super Eagles as they progress at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Having qualified for the quarterfinals, Nigeria will wait for the result of the game between Algeria and DR Congo to know their opponents for the next round.
