Brooklyn rapper Sheff G has turned himself in to begin serving a five-year prison sentence for a gang conspiracy plea.
Prosecutors alleged that the rapper, real name Michael Williams, helped in set up shootings and used his music earnings and royalties to fund gang activity for members of the 8 Trey Crips and their allies, the 9 Ways gang.
In May 2023, Drill rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow were charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Thirty-two alleged gang members were implicated, and 17 of the 32 have pleaded guilty.

Prosecutors wanted Sheff G to receive 20 years in prison, but a judge did not agree, as the prosecution was never able to prove that he actually pulled the trigger.
“This defendant had talent and opportunity. But he chose to use them to fuel violence instead of building a better future,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said after sentencing.
Sheff G is a Brooklyn drill pioneer whose career took off with the breakout single “No Suburban” (2017). He co-founded Winners Circle Entertainment and helped popularize New York drill. His projects The Unluccy Luccy Kid and Proud of Me Now solidified his influence.
