Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged the Federal Government to prioritise the recruitment of military and police personnel and ensure they are deployed to their states of origin.
In a post on his verified X account on Wednesday, Sani emphasised that assigning security personnel to their home states is the most effective way to combat terrorism, as they are familiar with the local terrain compared to officers from other regions.
He also called for comprehensive training and the provision of advanced equipment to strengthen their operations.
Sani said, “In combating bandits and terrorists, the recruitment of military and police personnel should place emphasis on regions with the highest levels of insecurity.
They should be recruited, trained, equipped, and sent to their respective states and regions to combat the criminals. They know their terrain better than anyone.”
His remarks come amid escalating security challenges across Nigeria, where citizens, including schoolchildren, continue to face abduction.
