Controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has reacted to the revocation of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka’s U.S. visa.
Naijaonpoint reports that Soyinka had revealed that his American visa was revoked by the United States government.
He disclosed this during a media parley in Lagos on Tuesday.
The renowned writer explained that he received the revocation letter from the US Consulate on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Reading the letter aloud at the event themed “Unending Saga: Idi Amin In Whiteface!” held at Freedom Park, Lagos, Soyinka suggested that the decision appeared to be linked to his long-standing criticism of US President Donald Trump’s policies.
The letter from the US Consulate, which he read publicly, partly stated, “Dear Mr Soyinka, this letter serves as official notification of the United States Consulate that the non-immigrant visa listed below has been revoked in pursuant to the Department of State Regulations 22 CFR 41.122 and is no longer valid for application into the United States.”
Reacting to the development via his Facebook page, Gumi likened the development to the revocation of his Saudi visa.
He attributed the move by the US government to alleged decisions to silence voices of opposition.
“It reminds me of my Saudi visa revoke for no offence beside freedom of speech.
“Poor them. You can’t silence those who don’t need you to survive”, Gumi wrote.
