A first look at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2025 gives viewers a sneak peek of Shrek 5. The titular ogre and his wife, Fiona’s two sons, can be seen on a balloon that will be featured during the holiday event.
First revealed in a video posted on TODAY’s YouTube channel, the balloon appeared when Macy’s was testing it on November 1, 2025, for the upcoming parade. It appears to be an onion carriage with Donkey and Shrek’s heads sticking out. Inside the carriage is an image of Fiona, Fergus, and Farkle.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature 32 balloons total. Along with Shrek’s family, the festival will showcase three other new figures: Buzz Lightyear, Mario, and Pac-Man.
The balloons won’t be the only new additions to this year’s parade. There will also be many new floats on the way. LEGO, Lindor Truffles, Serta, and Pop Mart are all newcomers to the iconic Macy’s event. Pop Mart’s float will even include giant-sized versions of its incredibly popular Labubus.
The official plot of the movie remains shrouded in mystery. However, Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Fiona) have all been confirmed to return for the fifth installment of the franchise. Zendaya will also be joining Shrek 5’s cast as Felicia, the daughter of the ogre couple.
Shrek 5’s release date has been delayed twice. Originally set for July 1, 2026, the film’s debut got pushed to December 23, 2026, and, now, the sequel is scheduled to come out on June 30, 2027. While no official reason has been given for the multiple postponements, people have speculated that it could be a strategic move to avoid competition with several other big-name movies such as, Avengers: Doomsday.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be live on NBC on November 27, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET.
