Shun calls for hunger protest – SGF appeals to Nigerians

Akume made this appeal during a press conference in Abuja, held on the eve of the demonstrations set to occur across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is actively working to address the numerous challenges facing the nation.

“We appeal to Nigerians, regardless of their beliefs, demographics, gender, or status, to avoid participating in protests against hunger and instead prioritize peace and progress,” the SGF stated.

He expressed confidence that the various interventions by the Federal Government would soon alleviate the hardships currently experienced by Nigerians.

“The ongoing economic difficulties will diminish shortly, and we will all experience enduring prosperity.

“To clarify, President Tinubu’s government acknowledges the right to peaceful protest, but we must emphasize caution and vigilance.

“The government is concerned about the risks associated with protests that could be exploited by bandits, insurgents, and other criminals. Instead, we encourage dialogue and remain receptive to such discussions,” he added.

Legitimate Businesses

During the briefing, the SGF encouraged citizens to focus on their legitimate business activities rather than engage in demonstrations against the current administration.

As the former Governor of Benue State, he asserted, “Economic prosperity for the nation is the ultimate goal of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, as it is the driving force behind progress, lifts families out of poverty, and fosters strong, resilient communities.”

He explained, “Since taking office in May 2023, this administration has inherited an economy that urgently requires bold and innovative reforms. Necessary policy actions, including the removal of an unsustainable fuel subsidy, were implemented, which have led to unforeseen adjustments affecting various aspects of the economy and our daily lives.

“The administration also inherited a security situation that had persisted for two decades, requiring significant attention and enhancement of our security architecture, infrastructure, systems, and the capabilities of personnel. This has necessitated a substantial allocation of limited resources from our decreasing revenues. The goals are to ensure the safety of lives and property, build confidence among foreign investors, and increase food production by restoring safety and security in our communities and farmlands.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sought the mandate of the Nigerian people to lead the nation during this challenging period because he understood the need for effective leadership to tackle long-standing issues. He aimed to renew the hope of Nigerians.

“In just fourteen months of focused leadership, this administration has achieved significant milestones that lay the groundwork for immediate, medium, and long-term prosperity for all Nigerians, in an inclusive manner.”
