Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has stirred backlash for introducing her daughter to the club and alcohol at age 17.
In a recent chat, she revealed that she was the one who first introduced her daughter to clubbing and alcohol at age 17. Laide explained that her daughter wanted to sleep over at her friend’s house, which was occupied by around six or seven girls, aged 16 and 17, in a luxury apartment.
She admitted that she personally gave her daughter her first club experience and even her first alcoholic drink, probably to protect her.
“I took my daughter to the club for the first time at 17. And I like the fact that in her memoir, she would reference me as the person who introduced her to alcohol and clubbing”.

Last month, Laide went all out for her daughter as she turned 17. To celebrate her new age, the actress threw a lavish birthday party at the Oriëntal Hotel, Lagos, which was attended by the likes of Biola Bayo and Ayo Olaiya.
One of the event’s highlights was when Similoluwa gave her speech at her party, breaking down in tears as she spoke about her mother. She praised her mother for being strong and the best, and noted how Laide went the extra mile, despite the economy, to make her happy and give her her heart’s desire.
On Simi’s birthday, Laide had appreciated her daughter for being a good girl. She noted how her daughter is a better version of herself as she appreciated her for always supporting and learning from her without doubt.
