Six 2025 Horror Movies Have Now Passed This Major Box Office Milestone In Time For Halloween

Black Phone 2 has passed a major box office milestone just in time for Halloween. The Scott Derrickson-directed horror sequel stars Demián Bichir opposite a number of returning Black Phone cast members including Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, and Ethan Hawke.

Per The Numbers, Black Phone 2 earned $1.46 million at the domestic box office on Tuesday, October 28. This has pushed its cumulative domestic total to $51.43 million, making it the 33rd movie of the year so far to pass the $50 million domestic milestone.

However, among horror releases, it has an even better standing. In addition to being the first Blumhouse movie of the year to pass the $50 million domestic milestone, it is the fourth franchise horror movie of the year to hit $50 million and only the sixth 2025 horror movie in general to do so.

It ultimately remains to be seen if any other 2025 horror movies will be able to follow Black Phone 2 across this major milestone. One that does have the potential to do so is Osgood Perkins’ Keeper, which is his latest original horror movie after 2024’s smash hit Longlegs, which grossed $74.3 million at the domestic box office.

However, Perkins has already had a horror movie debut in 2025 (the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey), and it failed to breach $50 million in spite of its connection to the legendary horror author. While it was a hit, grossing $39.7 million in North America and $68.9 million worldwide against its reported $10 million budget, its performance does not bode well for Keeper surpassing $50 million at home.

Of ...-Keeper horror movies from the 2025 schedule, which includes the remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night, the only movie that seems likely to hit the $50 million domestic milestone is Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. That release is the sequel to the 2023 video game adaptation, which had a domestic haul of $137.3 million. This underscores what rarefied air Black Phone 2 has found itself in.

In addition to how its performance compares to other 2025 horror titles, the movie is performing well in and of itself. While the impending Halloween weekend will likely boost the box office performance of 2025’s Black Phone 2 thanks to the holiday’s association with the horror genre, the horror sequel has already proven its value by hitting this milestone.

Black Phone 2 comes with a reported budget of just $30 million, so in addition to having already earned back nearly double that amount at the domestic box office alone, its cumulative global total of $85.8 million sees it more than surpassing its estimated break-even point of roughly $75 million.
