Czech 1. Liga leaders Slavia Prague have been dealt a huge injury blow with Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu potentially set to spend weeks on the sidelines due to a suspected groin injury, Footynaija.com reports.

Ogbu has established himself as a crucial member of Slavia’s defensive setup this season. The 25-year-old center back has featured in 20 of Slavia Prague’s 27 1. Liga matches, helping to keep things solid at the back as they seek to reclaim the Czech Liga crown.

Ogbu’s exploits for the 1. Liga leaders this term caught the eye of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle and earned him a first call-up to the national team. However, he was an unused substitute in both of Nigeria’s games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe respectively.

Back in Prague to resume club action, Ogbu was not part of Slavia’s travelling squad for their 1. Liga clash with FC Dukla Praha. It has now been revealed that the Nigerian was not fit and could in fact remain out of action for a number of weeks.

Speaking to the club’s official website following his side’s goalless draw with Dukla Praha at Stadion Juliska on Saturday, Slavia head coach Jindrich Trpisovsky provided some information on Ogbu’s condition.

“I don’t have a detailed report yet, he’s going to have an MRI. The first predictions are a tear in the adductor muscle in the groin. He was injured like this once and came back in half the time. We’ll see after the examination.”

Trpisovsky and Slavia Prague will be hoping Ogbu’s latest setback in not too serious. The Nigeria international has been a stalwart at the back and they’ll want him back as soon as possible.
