Smokey Robinson is keeping his cool as he faces serious allegations and insists that life remains “absolutely wonderful” despite recent sexual assault accusations from four of his former employees.
When TMZ asked if the claims concern him, Robinson replied simply: “No. Everything’s going good for me.”
The “Tears of a Clown” singer acknowledged the broader context of the allegations, suggesting the wave of misconduct claims since the MeToo movement has touched nearly everyone in the spotlight.
“It’s happening everywhere, man,” he said. “If it was gonna happen to me, it happened at a great time, because it’s happening to everybody, and it’s bulls–t.” He added with a shrug: “I’m good.”
Robinson is also the subject of a criminal investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
In July, the fifth former housekeeper of Robinson’s stepped forward to sue him for alleged sexual assault while under his employ.
All alleged victims claim Robinson forced them into non-consensual sexual acts, frequently without protection, and that his wife, Frances Robinson, contributed to a toxic workplace by using racial slurs and depriving them of breaks. He is being sued for upwards of $50 million and has filed a countersuit.
Robinson says the lawsuits have not managed to put a dent in his legacy.
