The Sokoto government says no civilian casualties were recorded during the US air strikes in the state.
The attacks, carried out late at night, focused on ISIS-affiliated groups operating in the north-western state.
Reacting to the incident, Abubakar Bawa, director-general of media and publicity at the Sokoto government house, said the strikes on Christmas Day targeted terrorist camps in Tangaza local government area.
Bawa explained that the impact of the bombardment could not be immediately assessed, as authorities are awaiting a full report from the joint operations team.
He added that objects discovered near Jabo town in Tambuwal local government area remain unexplained, pending analysis by Nigerian and US military authorities.
“Sokoto state welcomes any collaboration between Nigeria and relevant global stakeholders aimed at curbing terrorism and cross-border crimes,” the statement reads.
The government said the ongoing operations aim to secure the state and protect lives and property.
The state authorities also noted that over the past two years, it has consistently supported security agencies with equipment to strengthen efforts against banditry and terrorism.
Residents of affected areas were urged to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information to sustain ongoing operations and restore lasting peace.
