The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun on Monday ordered that all police flags fly at half mast across commands and formations in the country.
Egbetokun gave the order in honour of Solomon Arase, a former IGP and ex-chairman of the Police Service Commission who died in the early hours of Sunday, August 31, at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja.
Arase, passed at the age of 69 after a brief illness, his family had said.
Penning down a tribute for the late former IGP, Egbetokun also announced the opening of the condolence register in honour of Arase.
A statement by the Nigeria Police Force said, “IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, pens heartfelt tributes to the late 18th Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase, CFR, whose passing was announced yesterday, 31st August, 2025.
“The Nigeria Police Force has opened a Condolence Register at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for the revered former Police Chief, as senior officers and staff pay their respects.
“In honour of his memory, the Police flag will fly at half-mast in all Commands and Formations nationwide,” the NPF noted.
It also stated that the IGP presided over a statutory management meeting at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the police, during the meeting, a minute’s silence was observed in honour of the late Arase by members of the police management team.
“Force Management Team Holds Statutory Meeting, Observes Minute Silence for Late IGP Solomon E. Arase, CFR.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, presided over the Statutory Management Meeting at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where members of the Police Management Team observed a solemn minute of silence in honour of the late 18th Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase, CFR,” the statement added.
