Soludo Appoints Law Mefor As Information Commissioner

Dr Law Mefor, a writer, public speaker and critical commentator on national issues, has been appointed Commissioner for Information, Anambra State.

THE WHISTLER reports that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo swore in Dr Law Mefor tuesday, thus authenticating speculations of the sack of the erstwhile commissioner. The ceremony was performed at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Awka.

The spokesman of the governor, Mr Christian Aburime, quoted Gov Soludo as saying that Dr Mefor is assuming office when the dissemination of accurate and timely information is more critical than ever before.

Soludo said Mefor “is bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise that is expected to rejuvenate the state’s information apparatus.”

Meanwhile, Dr Mefor, after his swearing in, said working with the governor’s vision, he “plans to work with media organisations to promote media literacy among the public, providing them with the necessary tools to evaluate information critically and prevent the spread of inaccurate or misleading content”.

He also promised to use technology to modernise the state’s information ministry, and assured that it would be more responsive, efficient, and accessible to citizens.
