Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as the most transparent and efficient governorship election conducted in Anambra State in recent years.
Soludo made the remarks on Sunday during his acceptance speech, shortly after being declared the winner of the November 8 poll.
The governor reserved special praise for the newly appointed INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, describing the poll as an impressive debut for his administration.
Naijaonpoint reports that Soludo said, “To the Independent National Electoral Commission, I must very specifically thank you and thank in particular the new INEC chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan.
“This is your first outing, and as the saying goes, you don’t have a second chance to create a first impression. I am very excited that your very first impression is a very emphatic one.”
Soludo noted that the poll reflected steady improvements in Anambra’s electoral process, especially since INEC began deploying advanced technology.
He further stated, “INEC delivered, and I must put it on record that since I’ve been participating actively in the electoral process in Anambra, particularly since 2017 when you started experimenting with technology, every election here has been getting better and better
“It is fair to say that this is the best that you have organised so far in Anambra.”
He also referenced the August bye-election, describing it as “super,” while noting that the November 8 election was “even more impressive.”
Soludo expressed appreciation to electoral officers, security agencies and voters, saying their orderly conduct was a testament to growing confidence in Anambra’s democratic institutions.
The governor was declared the winner after polling 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 99,445 votes.
