Governor Charles Soludo, has threw jab at the Peter Obi’s time as governor during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Anambra State to commission new projects.

President Tinubu, on a one-day working visit, was in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Thursday to inaugurate the state’s first-ever Government House—marking a historic milestone more than 30 years after Anambra was created.

The president also officially commissioned several other projects executed by Governor Soludo.

Governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo state, Alex Otti of Abia state, Peter Mbah of Enugu state, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state, Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives and Governors of Borno, Ogun, Gombe and Delta states were also in Anambra, just as Malam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser, Senators Victor Umeh, Enyinnaya Abaribe and Ambassador Biaca Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, were equally in attendance.

In his speech, Tinubu described Anambra as the pride of Nigeria, not just of the South-East.

“I have commissioned several landmark projects—the Solution Centre, the Anambra Tower of Light, the Heroes Salute Statues, and unveiled the 8-lane Emeka Anyaoku Boulevard,” he said.

President Tinubu emphasized that his administration is focused on the future generation—the children.

“Building critical infrastructure is a key commitment of this government. We must invest in our future, in the future of our children. Education remains the greatest weapon against poverty.

“We must eliminate the issue of out-of-school children. These children are our responsibility, and we must work for their future,” he concluded.

In his speech, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo addressed President Bola Tinubu by his Igbo chieftaincy title, Omenife Awka, which means “a man of action whose impact is visible.”

He noted that the title was originally conferred on President Tinubu in 2005—twenty years ago—by the traditional ruler of Awka. This time, the President was also honoured with a new title, Dike Si Mba I of Anambra, meaning “a mighty man from a distant land.”

After paying tribute to President Tinubu, Governor Soludo described Anambra as the safest state in Nigeria over the past three months.

He recalled that the last time a Nigerian president visited Anambra was in 2012, during the commissioning of a brewery and another enterprise. He emphasised that although there are many projects awaiting commissioning—including roads, smart schools, and other infrastructure—the ones President Tinubu came to inaugurate hold special significance.

“The 8-lane boulevard, the Tower of Light, and the Monument of our Heroes are symbols of the audacity of our dreams for a new Anambra State,” he said.

The reference to the commissioning of brewrey in 2012 during the last presidential visit to state was said to be directed at Peter Obi, who was the governor of Anambra then.

Soludo had earlier said the investments Obi made for Anambra while he was governor are now “worth next to nothing”.
