President Bola Tinubu met with Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja.

Soludo, who arrived for a closed-door meeting, was spotted in red traditional attire complemented by a white Faze cap emblazoned with Tinubu’s insignia.

The Anambra governor, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has publicly declared his support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid despite belonging to an opposition party.

Soludo has been in office since March 2022, succeeding Willie Obiano. Before venturing into politics, he served as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from 2004 to 2009.

The meeting comes months ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra, where Soludo will be seeking a second term.

As of press time, neither the Presidency nor Soludo had disclosed details of their discussions.

Naijaonpoint understands that despite Soludo endorsing Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambition, the APC South-East has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu has approved Governor Soludo’s second-term bid.

The East Vice Chairman of the APC, Ijeomah Arodiogbu, who spoke with Punch in May, stated that Tinubu’s visit to Anambra does not translate to an endorsement.

After Tinubu visits Anambra to launch some projects, reports have emerged suggesting that the President’s presence signalled an endorsement of Soludo’s leadership and possibly his second-term ambition.

However, Arodiogbu claimed that Soludo’s allies tried to convince Tinubu to endorse the governor’s second-term bid, but he refused.
