Following the brutal murder of their mother, Yarai Chihota, by convicted serial killer Sifiso Mkhwanazi (frame 2), the family faced another tragic loss. Mwari Chihota, the 21-year-old son of Yarai, took his own life in December of last year. Unable to cope with the profound grief of losing their mother, Mwari consumed poison, leaving the family reeling from yet another tragedy. Pauline Chihota, Mwari’s sister and the eldest sibling, shared that her brother’s suicide was a result of his inability to bear the loss of their mother. The family of five was now reduced to four, with Pauline feeling the weight of the responsibility to care for her siblings. Despite the relief of Sifiso Mkhwanazi being sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday, Pauline expressed that it could never bring back their beloved mother. She highlighted the irreplaceable void left by their mother’s absence and the challenges in trying to fill that void for her siblings on her own. Despite their prayers for justice being answered, the pain of their losses remains immeasurable.
