One of the suspects in the Khayelitsha barbershop shooting, Athule Mtsha, was gunned down just hours after appearing in court.
Mtsha was killed alongside another man on May 26, 2025, in Nkanini, Cape Town.
Police confirmed that both men were declared dead at the scene after being found with gunshot wounds.
Mtsha had earlier appeared in the Khayelitsha Regional Court in connection with the 2024 shooting that left three children and a man dead.
He and co-accused Sithisa Masiko were charged with murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Witnesses said the assailants in the barbershop massacre had been looking for someone allegedly carrying a firearm.
Mtsha denied involvement and claimed he was in a different location at the time of the shooting. Despite the charges, both accused were released on bail and were scheduled to appear in court again on July 8, 2025.
Police are still investigating Mtsha’s murder and have asked the public to come forward with any information.
